Matt's Thoughts:

"...so I'm gonna take a chance on ya, kid" I said, kicking my feet up on the desk, lighting up a cuban cigar.

Well, not exactly, it sounded like a cool way to intro things.

"Finals Week" was another black & white shock-suspense story of mine that required dark/moody music with complex theme. This was Leslie's first score and I'm sure she grew tired of me telling her "more atonal; dissonant; low and slow". Some of the underscore was tricky, but she worked hard revising after my suggestions. The centerpiece for me was the main titles, which I really think she nailed -- it reminds me of a theme to a series like "Mystery" - very classy and complex indeed!

I've already offered her to write the music for my next film and can't wait to hear what she comes up with. Here's to wonderful collaboration on many projects to come... Cheers, Leslie!

Leslie's Thoughts:

Wow! I finally made it. I never thought I'd see the end of the tunnel, but alas, I'm here! Hooray! Writing music for a film is truly a labor of love and boy, was it ever! I managed to graduate, break a lease, move, tow my car across town, fix three flat tires and turn green during the entire process. It's a funny thing. You think you know exactly how a scene is going to sound when you hear the description of it, but when you actually see the footage, the music goes right out the window. Thankfully, a new one came through. That's how the Main Title came about. I think I'll use the original music for a rainy day. In the meantime, I'm pleased with the end product. After re-recording the majority of the score three times, I can be at peace (director, too!). This was my first attempt at writing music for cello, and wow, what a gloriously rich-sounding instrument it is. Ironically, the music came about fairly easy to me, considering "killer thrillers" are usually not my main genre of music. I've learned so much about the film process and I learned so much about me. That's always a cool thing.
